A look back and ahead…

Over 400 tickets were sold for a fundraiser held by the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program at the new Purple Haze Center on Friday, September 30. Approximately $25,000 was raised to support the charity, which aids in finding a second career for retired race horses.

Law Enforcement is expected to return to Finger Lakes on Saturday for the $200,000(est.) New York Breeders’ Futurity for New York-bred 2-year-olds. The Mark Hennig-trainee won the $138,225 Aspirant Stakes on September 3 by seven and one-half lengths in a six furlong time of 1:10.09.

Trainer Rafael Rohena, Sr. saddled his first Finger Lakes winner of the 2007 season on Saturday. Out for Fame, ridden by Rohena’s son, Rafael Rohena, Jr., won the seventh race. Rohena, Sr. had success at El Comandante (now Hipódromo Camarero) before arriving at "The Thumb". Mi Pradera had eight stakes victories and made over $600,000 in purse earnings in Puerto Rico for Rohena.

Longshot of the Week: Office At Night was guided to an off-the-pace victory in Saturday’s eighth race by jockey Pauline Forkhamer. The 6-year-old mare trained by Oscar Barrera Jr. scored the upset victory at odds of 28-1 after failing to hit the board in any of her previous eleven starts.
