LAW ENFORCEMENT RETURNS
Aspirant winner entered in richest Finger Lakes race
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Camelia Casby’s Law Enforcement will return to Finger Lakes on Saturday for the 45th renewal of the New York Breeders’ Futurity. The $269,200 estimated purse for the six furlong sprint for New York-bred 2-year-olds is the largest purse in the history of the Western New York track.
Law Enforcement is listed as the 4-5 early favorite for Saturday’s eighth race. The undefeated colt won the $138,225 Aspirant Stakes on September 3 at Finger Lakes by seven and one-half lengths in a six furlong time of 1:10.09. The effort followed his career debut at Belmont Park on July 20, where he broke his maiden in a five and one-half furlong time of 1:02.53. The Mark Hennig-trainee will start from post seven and will be ridden by John Grabowski.
By the Light will also make a second appearance at Finger Lakes after winning the $137,825 Lady Finger Stakes by five and one-quarter lengths for owner Jay Em Ess Stable. Her six furlong time of 1:11.10 on Labor Day was an entire second slower than Law Enforcement’s.
Since 1990, only two fillies have defeated the boys in the annual stake. A jockey has yet to be named on the Richard Dutrow-trainee with Grabowski choosing to ride the expected favorite.
Proud Puppy Handicap
A full field of ten are entered for the $50,000 Proud Puppy Handicap. The ninth running of the stake for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up is carded as the seventh race.
Gold Like U is the morning line favorite for the six furlong dash. The 6-year-old mare won the $50,000 Arctic Queen Handicap by six and one-half lengths in her only visit to Finger Lakes for owner Winning Move Stable. Gary Contessa is the trainer of the eleven time winner who has amassed $392,604 in career purse earnings. Jockey John Grabowski will begin the race from the extreme outside post aboard the 5-2 early program choice.
Craig Singer’s Cajun Mistress was defeated by only six and one-half lengths in the $200,000 Grade Three Endine Stakes in her last start on September 8 at Delaware Park. The 4-year-old filly was a $220,000 auction purchase in 2005. The program second choice of 3-1 will be ridden by Jeremias Flores for trainer Steve Klesaris.
First race post time for Saturday is set at 1:10 p.m. Gaming doors open at 10:00 a.m. and racing gates open at 11:30 a.m.
