A look back and ahead…
* The quickest time of the first week of racing was accomplished by Rain Song. The 6-year-old mare won the seventh race on Tuesday in a four and one-half furlong time of :52.76 under jockey Paul Nicol, Jr. The odds-on favorite trained by Scott Lake was never challenged on the front end and drew away to a six and one-quarter length victory over the sloppy surface. The four-time stakes winner now has ten victories in 17 starts and has career purse earnings of $231,382.
* Robert Messina is the early leader in the Finger Lakes jockey standings with three visits to the winners circle during the first two days of the 2007 meet. Of the eight horses Messina has ridden, six have finished in the top three.
* Longshot of the Week: The opening day card concluded with a 13-1 outsider crossing the wire first in the ninth race. Passing Ships enjoyed the moisture in the racetrack and scored a half-length win for trainer Edward Perdue. Jockey Carlos Dominguez rode the 9-year-old gelding who has achieved six of his eleven lifetime victories on an off track.
