A look back and ahead

Golden Scholar sizzled six furlongs in a time of 1:10.61 to take Sundays fifth race by seven and one-half lengths. The 3-year-old colt won for the second consecutive time at Finger Lakes for trainer David Geist. Jockey Paul Nicol Jr. was along for the ride aboard the Virgina-bred who disposed of a softer field in similar fashion on April 24 at a shorter distance.

La Bamba ran erratically but distanced herself from her rivals to win Sundays eighth race by a large margin. The Scott Lake-trainee drifted wide on the final turn but jockey Paul Nicol, Jr. was able to direct her to the wire first to take the Mothers Day Purse by eight and one-quarter lengths.

Longshot of the Week: Zabaglione made his first career start a winning one on Friday for trainer Dorothy Gentner. The 18-1 outsider rallied past odds-on-favorite Cartersville in the stretch to score the seventh race victory by two and one-quarter lengths under jockey Gabriel Suarez.
