NEWS RELEASE

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – The 2007 stakes season got underway at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Monday with Johnie Bye Night winning the 24th running of the $50,000 George W. Barker Handicap. The 5-year-old gelding cruised to a six and one-half length victory in a six furlong time of 1:09.71.

It was the second consecutive year that the $208,858 earner visited the winners circle after the running of the handicap for New York-breds 3-year-olds and up. The 8-5 post time favorite opened up a five length lead zipping the first half mile in a time of :43.3 under John Davila, Jr., and was unchallenged the rest of the way.

It was the fourth straight season that owner and trainer Charlton Baker saddled the winner of the Memorial Day Feature. Baker won the 2004 and 2005 running of the event with Top Shoter."He had a few problems in New York", said Baker. "He’s been training well and loves the course here."

Johnie Bye Night won his fourth consecutive stakes race at Finger Lakes and paid $5.30, $4.60 and $2.80. Mr. Bourbon Street, who is also trained by Baker, got up to be second and returned $10.20 and $5.40. You Willgo Broke finished third and paid $3.00.

The next stakes race at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will be run on Sunday, June 17. The $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap, a 6-furlong sprint for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up, is scheduled for that day.
