FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Langpap Stables’ Fly to Me rallied to win the 13th renewal of the $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Handicap at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Saturday. The 4-year-old filly completed the one mile and one-sixteenth route in a final time of 1:48.04.
The Michael Lecesse-trainee was rated off a quick early pace which was set by Hoosick Falls. With a furlong to go, jockey John Davila, Jr. moved her closer to challenge the frontrunner. She then she drew away from her rivals to score a three and three-quarter length victory.
"We expected her to come off the pace, but she was a little further back than usual", said Lecesse. "The fractions were in :23 and :46 and she’s just a real good filly."
It was the second career stakes win for Fly to Me, who also won the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile in 2005. With eight victories in 20 starts, she has amassed $264,989 in lifetime purse earnings. The popular choice in the wagering returned $4.10, $3.00, and $3.10. Watrals Dahlia closed ground to be second and paid $9.90 and $4.10. Hoosick Falls faded to be third and paid $4.30.
The next stakes race at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will be run on Sunday, September 3. The $75,000 New York Oaks, a one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-old fillies, is scheduled for that day.
