New York Oaks
Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey’s Talking Treasure is listed as the morning line favorite for the 22nd renewal of the $75,000 New York Oaks after winning the $80,000 Lady D’Accord at Saratoga on August 9. She also won the $100,000 Bouwerie Stakes at Belmont Park on May 6 for trainer Charlton Baker. The $207,108 earner finished second in the $50,000 Niagara Stakes in her only race at Finger Lakes on July 14. Jockey Robert Messina will ride the 7-5 early program choice in the one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-old fillies.
Laurentide Ice appears to be the main threat to Talking Treasure for owner Camelia Casby. The Mark Hennig-trainee has two stakes victories under her belt, achieved in the New York Stallion Series. She won the $100,000 Fifth Avenue Division at Aqueduct on November 5, 2006 as well as the $75,000 Cupecoy’s Joy division at Belmont Park on June 3, 2007. The 2-1 second choice on the early line will break from post one in the seventh race and will be ridden by John Grabowski.
Lady Finger Stakes
The 29th running of the $137,825 Lady Finger Stakes is one of two stakes races scheduled for
Monday. Seven competitors will face off in the six furlong sprint for New York-bred 2-year-old fillies which is carded as the seventh race.Jay Em Ess Stable’s By the Light is the early favorite for the event after a six and one-quarter length victory in her debut at Belmont Park. She has not run since winning the July 11 maiden race; a longer break than any of her rivals. Richard Dutrow is the trainer of the $190,000 yearling purchase who will be guided by John Grabowski.
Canadian Ballet will also enter the race after winning her first career start. The chestnut filly overcame trouble in a five furlong maiden race at Saratoga to win by a length and a half. Leading jockey John Davila, Jr. will be in the saddle of the Linda Rice-trainee for owner Obviously NY Stable.
Beam of Love was defeated by Canadian Ballet in her initial start on an off track. She showed improvement in her second start over a fast track at a longer distance of seven furlongs. She drew away from her challengers to score a six and three-quarter length victory on August 22 at Saratoga. Channing Hill will be in the irons of the Gary Contessa-trainee who is owned by Darlene Bilinski and Edward McGettigan, Jr.
Aspirant Stakes
The 33rd running of the 138,225 Aspirant Stakes will also take place on Monday with a full field of eleven competitors. The six furlong dash for New York-bred 2-year-olds is carded as the eighth race.
Spanky Fischbein is the only entrant in the field with previous stakes experience. He finished second in the $60,000 Tyro Stakes on July 28 at Monmouth Park. Eclipse award winner Todd Pletcher is the trainer of the 3-1 early program choice who will be ridden by jockey Chris DeCarlo.
