FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Camelia Casby’s Law Enforcement won the $138,225 Aspirant Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Monday in a time that was just a tick off the stakes record. The undefeated colt completed the 33rd running of the six furlong sprint for New York-bred 2-year-olds in a final time of 1:10.09. Mellow Roll set the stakes record of 1:10.01 in 1997.

The Mark Hennig-trainee drew off in the stretch under jockey Alan Garcia to win the eighth race by seven and one-half lengths. "I had good position with him", said Garcia. "I had a lot of horse."

It was the second consecutive win for Law Enforcement who broke his maiden at Belmont Park in a five and one-half furlong time of 1:02.53 on July 20. He was the post time favorite in the race and paid $3.00, $2.40 and $2.70. Spanky Fischbein closed to be second and returned $3.20 and $2.90. Piquante Cat faded to be third and paid $3.70.

Lady Finger Stakes

Earlier on the Labor Day card, By the Light won the 29th renewal of the 137,925 Lady Finger Stakes. The bay filly owned by Jay Em Ess Stable finished the six furlong sprint for 2-year-old New York-bred fillies in a time of 1:11.10.

The Richard Dutrow-trainee stalked the pace set by Canadian Ballet before overtaking that rival to win by five and one-quarter lengths under John Grabowski. "I really thought I was out of horse", said Grabowski. "She switched leads and she was gone."

The seventh race victory for Grabowski moved him closer to a career milestone. The six-time Finger Lakes leading jockey is currently four away from his 3,000th win.

By the Light was the popular choice and paid $2.50, $2.10, and $2.10. Canadian Ballet held second and returned $3.00 and $2.80. Beam of Love rallied to be third and paid $2.50.

The next stakes race at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will be run on Saturday, September 15. The $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap, a one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up, is scheduled for that day.
