NEWS RELEASE
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Sanford Bacon’s Say Toba Sandy is listed as the morning line favorite for the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile to be run as the eighth race of Saturday’s nine race card. She is the only filly entered in the six furlong sprint for 2-year-olds.
The 8-5 early program choice had a surprise victory in her last start when she took the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies on October 13 at odds of 59-1. The bay New York-bred became the first stakes winner sired by $2,070,407 earner Say Florida Sandy. She prepared for this race with a bullet workout on September 19, completing three furlongs in :35.80.
The M. Anthony Ferraro-trainee will attempt to be the second filly to win the annual stake. Fly to Me, who was trained by Ferraro, defeated male rivals in 2005.
Jockey David Osorio, who earned his first career stakes win in the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies, will be back aboard Say Toba Sandy on Saturday.
Scary Trip is the only three-time winner in the field, with his only loss occurring in the $55,000 Par Four stakes on August 18 at Delaware Park. The Kentucky-bred colt trained by Michael Gorham has made $76,407 in purse earnings in four starts for owner Candy Stable. Jockey John Davila, Jr. will be in the irons of the 2-1 morning line second choice.
Tin Cup Chalice demolished Finger Lakes maidens by fifteen and one-quarter lengths over a sloppy surface on October 23. The bay gelding owned by trainer Michael Lecesse and Scott Vaniaer, is a half brother to Don Corleone who was a longshot winner of the 2004 New York Derby. Jockey Omar Camejo is listed as the jockey to ride the 9-2 third choice.
The eighth renewal of the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile will be the final stake run during the 2007 live season which is scheduled to conclude on December 1. First race post time for Saturday is set at 1:10 p.m. Gaming doors open at 10:00 a.m. and racing gates open at 11:30 a.m.
