A look back and ahead…

Rises the Phoenix was entered in Friday’s feature race by trainer Daniel Conway, Jr. after scoring two consecutive victories at Aqueduct. The 7-year-old New York-bred kept his winning streak alive by defeating his rivals in the third race by four lengths under jockey Nazario Alvarado. After catching Brocco Valley, who was loose on the early lead, he went on to finish the one mile and seventy yard route in a time of 1:41.98.

Democrat held off a late charge of Soulshine to take the eighth race on Tuesday by a neck. The Charlton Baker-trainee now has five wins in 12 starts and has amassed $137,967 in career purse earnings. The 5-year-old New York-bred completed the five and one-half furlong sprint in a time of 1:04.94 under jockey Dennis Carr.

Longshot of the Week: Jockey Santos Navarro-Leon found better footing for Unaccountably Pink on the outside part of the track and guided the 7-year-old mare to a two and three-quarter length victory in Monday’s second race. Leon notched his first victory of the season with the 31-1 outsider for trainer Felix Monserrate.

Jockey News: Dennis Carr rode four winners on Tuesday’s card to reclaim the third position from Gabriel Suarez in the Finger Lakes jockey standings with 17 victories. Suarez temporarily held the third spot after recording a triple on Friday.
