A look back and ahead…

Tin Cup Chalice remained undefeated with a victory in the $100,000 Mike Lee at Belmont Park on Sunday. The $129,960 earner was ridden to the one and one-half length score by jockey Pedro Rodriguez. The 3-year-old gelding has won all five career starts by a combined 40 lengths for trainer Michael Lecesse. Four of those wins were accomplished at Finger Lakes including the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile on November 3, 2007. His next start is expected to be in the $150,000 New York Derby held at Finger Lakes on July 12.

Watral’s Dahlia ran down Fly to Me in the stretch to win the Miss Canandaigua Handicap on Tuesday. It was the first career win in a route race for the Michael S. Ferraro-trainee whose last visit to the winners circle occurred on July 21, 2007. Jockey Robert Messina directed the 7-year-old mare to the half length victory in a time of 1:45.75 for the one mile and seventy yard distance.

New York Citi became the first five-time winner of the 2008 season after taking Sunday’s sixth race by three-quarters of a length under jockey Dennis Carr. The 4-year-old filly has not been defeated since making his first Finger Lakes start on May 5 for trainer Charlton Baker.

Longshot of the Week: Gumpson had a successful career debut taking Friday’s sixth race by a half length for trainer William Bartlett. The 28-1 longshot was guided to the maiden win by jockey Paul Nicol, Jr. despite drifting out in late stretch.
