A look back and ahead…
Buckridge Bailey made his first 2008 visit to the winner’s circle on Tuesday for trainer Edward Perdue. The 4-year-old colt was brave on the front end under jockey Dennis Carr and won the eighth race in a five and one-half furlong time of 1:04.93. After winning six races in eight starts last year, he received the 2007 award for best Finger Lakes 3-year-old male horse.
Jose Baez is the 5-2 morning line favorite for the Finger Lakes Jockey Footrace which will take place after the sixth race on Friday, July 4. Baez joins nine others for the annual race which will be run from the gate at a distance of one-sixteenth of a mile. The Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund, which assists injured and disabled riders, will receive $3,000 from Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack because of the event.
Longshot of the Week: Cosmic Illusion crossed the wire first in Tuesday’s second race giving trainer George Beech his first win of the season. The 6-year-old gelding scored the upset victory under jockey Jose Rohena at odds of 18-1. Rohena also won the fourth race on the card aboard Mysterious Key.

Trainer John Tebbutt saddled two winners on both Friday and Saturday and moved into the top ten in the 2008 Finger Lakes trainer standings. Fridays July 4 / Family Fun Day:
Beach towels will be handed out to the first 2,500 guests (18 & over) through the doors. There will be live music, an outdoor chicken barbecue, and activities for the kids. Jockeys will be available for autographs between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. The ‘All-Star Buglers’ will perform the call to the post and other anthems throughout the day.
