FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Jockey Gabriel Suarez earned his first career stakes win aboard Stonegate Racing Stables’ Mr. Windjammer in the 25th running of the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Sunday.

Mr. Windjammer scored the off-the-pace victory under Suarez by a margin of one and one-half lengths. The chestnut gelding completed the six furlong dash for 3-year-old New York-breds in a time of 1:11.64.

The Jonathan Buckley-trainee now has a total of four career wins and has never been worse than second in any of his seven lifetime starts. He was not well backed by the public making a step up in class and paid $19.80, $5.50 and $2.80. Be Bullish was second and returned $4.10 and $2.20. Pocatello finished third as the post time favorite and paid $2.20.

Gabriel Suarez has made 321 trips to the winners circle during his six year career. The 24-year-old from Carolina, Puerto Rico is currently fifth in the Finger Lakes jockey standings with 32 wins. 21 of the 32 horses he guided to victory this season were saddled by Jonathan Buckley

The next stakes race at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will be run on Saturday, August 2. The $50,000 Arctic Queen Handicap, a 6-furlong sprint for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up, is scheduled for that day.
