A look back and ahead…

On Saturday, Legal Consent became the first maiden to win the $318,525 New York Breeders’ Futurity. The Carlos Martin-trainee was a three length victor of the richest race in the history of Finger Lakes.

Tin Cup Chalice established himself as the fourth largest money earner of any New York-bred during their 3-year-old campaign after winning the Grade 2 $500,000 Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park on Saturday. With a 2008 bankroll of $827,280, the 8-time winner moves into the elite category with Funny Cide, Thunder Rumble and Victory Gallop.

Longshot of the Week: Take the Gal scored her second victory of the year at high odds on Friday. The 4-year-old filly won the ninth race at a price of 55-1 under jockey Rudy Ignacio. She held off a late challenge from Laura’s Fury by a neck after setting the early fractions for the one mile and 70 yard route. The Clyde Dean Cranwell-trainee also won at odds of 22-1 on August 10.

Participants that finished within the "Top 25" during any of the July, August, or September Challenges receive invitations to compete in this event.  First place wins $1,000 and a berth in 2009 Coast Casinos Horseplayer World Series. Second place wins $600. Third place wins $400.  Fourth and fifth places win $250. Sixth through tenth place finishers win $100 each.
