A look back and ahead…

* Thatswhyweboughtto returned from a lengthy layoff to win Tuesday’s third race. The 6-year-old gelding trained by Linda Rice ran down the speedy A Very Young Jet to get the victory in a four and one-half furlong time of :52.58. Paul Nicol, Jr. was aboard the $121,257 earner who has visited the Finger Lakes winners circle four times in his last six starts.

* Elaine Castillo currently leads all Finger Lakes riders with seven victories to begin the 2007 meet. The 24-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico added to her total with a hat trick on Friday for three different trainers. Two of her seven wins were for Dan Conway, Jr. who leads all conditioners with six victories. Of the 12 horses Conway has saddled this season, ten have finished in the top three. 
     
* Longshot of the Week: Express Check In overcame an outside post and 26-1 odds to win the fourth race on Friday for trainer Alan Klanfer. The 4-year-old filly was forced to go six wide into the stretch under jockey Rudy Ignacio, but rallied to score a one and one-quarter length victory. 

News and Notes

* Jockey News/Trainer News: Abad Cabassa, Jr. and Chin Yang both returned to ride at Finger Lakes this week. Cabassa, Jr. is only 13 away from his 1,000th career win. Yang did not ride during the 2006 meet while recovering from a leg injury.
