A look back and ahead…
The oldest active horse at Finger Lakes made a visit to the Winner’s Circle on Monday. Midnight Secret, a 12-year-old gelding, scored a neck victory in the fifth race under jockey Joel Sone. The Oscar Barrera, Jr.-trainee has hit the board in 58 of his 103 career starts and has earned a sum of $203,859.
Bob’s Dylan scored a three length victory over stablemates Afleet Alexandra and Sweet Lorena to give trainer Michael S. Ferraro a sweep of the top three positions in the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap on Sunday. Jockey John Davila, Jr. earned his third consecutive victory on the card aboard Bob’s Dylan and continues to battle John Grabowski for the lead in the Finger Lakes rider standings. Grabowski’s 49 wins for the meet is two better than Davila, Jr. who has 47 victories after 43 days of racing.
Longshot of the Week: Flower Show was sent to the front by jockey Ismael Del Valle and opened up an insurmountable early lead on her rivals in Monday’s fourth race. The 4-year-old filly cruised to an eight and one-quarter length upset win at odds of 39-1 for trainer Manuel Gomez. Del Valle earned his first victory in North America aboard the bay Maryland-bred who had lost her previous six races by an average of 28 lengths.
