A look back and ahead…

Tiger Speech won the feature race on Tuesday by a neck over Crafty Mark. The 7-year-old gelding scored his first Finger Lakes triumph since taking the Rochester Handicap on August 27, 2007. The $171,857 earner completed the one mile and 70 yard distance in a time of 1:42.89 for trainer Michael S. Ferraro. Jockey Dennis Carr guided the 2007 Finger Lakes "Horse of the Year" to his eleventh career victory in the eighth race.

Bob’s Big Hope became the first 4-time winner of the 2009 season after taking the seventh race on Saturday by one-half length under jockey Dennis Carr. The James Acquilano-trainee has scored victories all three times he has traveled the distance of five and one-half furlongs.

Longshot of the Week: Bay Guard lit up the tote board on Sunday with a three length victory in the fifth race at odds of 55-1. The 8-year-old gelding had lost his previous five races by an average of 12 lengths and had not made a visit to the Winner’s Circle since July 11, 2008. Jockey Oscar Gomez guided the bay New York-bred to the upset win over the sloppy surface for trainer Edward Babcock.

Jockey/Trainer News: Jairo Espinosa recorded his first win as a trainer on Sunday. Mislead by Deb won the first race by two and three-quarter lengths for the 25-year-old conditioner. Apprentice rider Tadious Simpson joined the jockey colony this week and hit the board with his second Finger Lakes mount. The son of former Finger Lakes jockey Trevor Simpson directed Vilify to a second place finish in Monday’s fifth race.

Saturday, June 27 / $1,000 Hit The Board Eliminator Challenge: Fans choose the winners of each Finger Lakes live race and their selection must hit the Board (win, place or show) to survive. Contestants attempt to be the last standing to win $800 in cash. Also, drawings for $25 betting vouchers will take place after each of the first eight contest races. Entry Forms are free and available at the Player Extras Station in the Upper Grandstand on the day of the contest.  Entries must be submitted by post time of the first race and participants have to be present to win.
