Too Tough Pete returned quick dividends for owner John Salvato and trainer Michael S. Ferraro who claimed him for $15,000 on June 5. The 4-year-old gelding won an allowance race on Sunday for his new barn by one and three-quarter lengths under jockey Dean Frates. The victory was the eighth in the career of the $128,737 earner who completed the six furlong distance of the eighth race in a time of 1:10.94.

The experience that Fresh Footnotes had over her 2-year-old rivals may have been a factor when she scored a three-quarter length victory on Tuesday for trainer Timothy Ritvo. After running third at Belmont Park on June 24, she defeated the fourth race field that consisted of mostly fillies making their first career start. Jockey John Grabowski guided the chestnut New York-bred to the maiden win in a time of 1:00.90 for the five furlong distance.

Longshot(s) of the Week: The top three finishers of Monday’s ninth race all had post time odds of 20-1 or higher. Looks Like Magic, at odds of 20-1, won the event by one-half length over 23-1 outsider Redemption and 32-1 longshot Well Stoned. The trifecta in the day’s finale returned $11,225 for a $2.00 wager. Looks like Magic is trained by Rafael Rohena, Sr. and was ridden to victory on Monday by jockey Rafael Rohena, Jr.

Jockey News: Ezequiel Perez was injured in the sixth race on Sunday at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania. Perez suffered a broken collarbone and will be out of action for at least three months.
