FARMINGTON, N.Y. – The 31st renewal of the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap is scheduled to be run on Sunday at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. Of the five competitors that will face off in the event, Dr. V’s Magic owns the largest career bankroll and is the only multiple stakes winner.

The $295,500 earner owned by Majesty Stud is the 5-2 second choice in the program for the one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up. He won both the $75,000 Spectacular Bid Stakes and the $250,000 Empire Classic Handicap in 2007. The Dominic Galluscio-trainee has been lightly raced since his successful 3-year-old season with only four starts since finishing third in the Grade 3 $100,000 Discovery Handicap at Aqueduct on November 24, 2007. His only other visit to Finger Lakes was in 2007 when he finished off the board in the $150,000 New York Derby. Leading jockey John Davila, Jr. will be aboard the 5-year-old horse.

Tina Marie Bond’s Tommasi is the 122-pound highweight for the annual handicap. He finished second behind Sweetnorthernsaint in the $50,000 Wadsworth Memorial Handicap in his last visit to Finger Lakes on July 4. The 7-year-old gelding’s lone career stakes victory was in the $80,000 Loudonville Stakes at Saratoga on September 1, 2008. The 4-5 morning line favorite is trained by H. James Bond and will be ridden on Sunday by John Grabowski.

The Genesee Valley Breeders’ Association (G.V.B.A.) is the oldest thoroughbred breeding organization in the United States. The G.V.B.A. awards program is administered by the New York Breeding and Development Fund Corporation, and it continues to provide monies for breeders and stallion awards and enhanced purses for registered New York-breds.

The $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap is scheduled as the eighth of Sunday’s nine race card. First race post time will be at 1:10 p.m. Gaming doors open at 10:00 a.m. and racing gates open at 11:30 a.m.
