FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Dr. V’s Magic was a five and one-half length winner of the 31st running of the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Sunday. The 5-year-old horse owned by Majesty Stud completed the one mile and one sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up in a final time of 1:46.38 over a wet racing surface.

The Dominic Galluscio-trainee was not bothered by the off-track that was downgraded to sloppy earlier in the day from a passing storm. He broke his maiden in his only other start on a sloppy track in his career debut on January 1, 2007.

Dr. V’s Magic hounded Brocco Valley who set the early fractions of the Sunday feature. He then collared his rival under jockey John Davila, Jr. and drew away to score his third career stakes victory. The visit to the Winner’s Circle was his first since taking the $250,000 Empire Classic Handicap at Belmont Park on October 20, 2007.

The $325,500 earner was the second choice in the wagering and paid $6.20, $3.30 and $2.10. Brocco Valley held second and returned $3.50 and $2.10. Tommasi finished third and paid $2.10.

The next stakes race at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will be run on Saturday, August 22. New York-bred 3-year-olds and up will compete in the $50,000 Leon Reed Memorial Handicap at a distance of six furlongs.
