FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day will visit Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16 to support the Race Track Chaplaincy of America. The four-time winner of the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey will make an appearance this weekend to celebrate 25 years of the Race Track Chaplaincy of Finger Lakes.
The mission of the Race Track Chaplaincy of America (R.T.C.A.) is to minister to individuals working in the stable areas of thoroughbred and harness racetracks throughout the country. Day has been involved with the R.T.C.A. since the early 1980’s and is currently the racing industry's representative for the organization.
"It is important to us to have a well known jockey and evangelist to share this celebration with us," said Finger Lakes Chaplain Herb Wagner. "It is a blessing that this worked out the way it did."
Day will participate in activities such as meeting with fans and signing autographs. He previously made an appearance at Finger Lakes on September 12, 2004 as part of his "What a Difference a Day Makes" tour. He guided Shesasoprano to victory for trainer Ralph D’Alessandro in one of the two races he participated in that day.
The all-time leading rider at both Keeneland and Churchill Downs in Kentucky has ridden winners of American Triple Crown races a total of nine times during his career. He has won a total of 12 Breeders' Cup races, including four classics.
Since winning his first race at Prescott Downs in Arizona in 1973, Day has earned a total of 8,804 victories amassing nearly $298 million in purses during his 32-year career. After undergoing hip surgery, he announced his retirement on August 3, 2005. The 55-year-old has been a member of racing's Hall of Fame since 1992.
