The members of Morrisville Stable visited the Winner’s Circle for the third time this season after Try Love won Monday’s fifth race by three and three-quarter lengths under jockey Elaine Castillo. Trainer Clyde Dean Cranwell is the Director of the program at Morrisville State College whose mission is to educate and train a workforce for the racing industry. Cranwell has run the curriculum for approximately three years and his pupils get hands-on experience by being involved in the conditioning of the horses. The students participate in all the daily activities such as grooming, exercise riding and race preparation. The horses are acquired by the outfit from donations and private purchases. With eight starts at Finger Lakes this year, Morrisville Stable has three wins and two second place finishes.

Longshot of the Week: Trutonic made a belated 2009 debut on Tuesday after being on the shelf since losing by 13 lengths on October 20, 2008. The Samuel Latimer-trainee upset the ninth race field by three-quarters of a length at odds of 39-1. The 4-year-old New York-bred was the third filly that jockey Ismael Del Valle directed to victory this season at double digit odds. Del Valle has a positive return of investment of $136 with the 26 female horses he has ridden during this year’s Finger Lakes meet.

Jockey/Trainer News: After guiding six horses to victory this week, John Grabowski cut into the lead of John Davila, Jr. in the Finger Lakes jockey standings. Davila, Jr. is currently clinging to a four win lead over Grabowski.
