FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Doremifasollatido will face six other rivals in the 24th renewal of the $75,000 New York Oaks on Sunday at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. The James Jerkins-trainee will attempt the longest distance of her career on dirt in the one mile and one-sixteenth route restricted for 3-year-old fillies.

The top contender of the annual contest has yet to visit the Winner’s Circle in 2009, but earned agraded stakes victory as a 2-year-old. She won the $250,000 Grade 2 Matron Stakes at Belmont Park on September 13, 2008. The $249,738 earner, owned by Susan Moore and M and M Thoroughbred Partners, was then entered in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She was defeated by 13 lengths by Eclipse Award winner Stardom Bound in the $2,000,000 event after breaking from the extreme outside post. The trip around the two turns of the prestigious race marked the only time the classy filly has traveled a distance over one mile.

The $110,000 yearling purchase finished second in the $70,000 Fleet Indian Stakes at Saratoga in her most recent start on August 3 at Saratoga. She wore blinkers for the first time in her career in that race and will keep the hood on for Sunday’s feature. Jockey Pedro Rodriguez will be attempting to score his first New York Oaks victory aboard the 2-1 second choice in the morning line.

Strait Gate Stable’s Sapphire Sky returns to the track where she broke her maiden in her first lifetime start. She won her debut by 13 and three quarter lengths over a sloppy surface on August 8, 2008.
The bay filly has achieved all of her four career victories on off-tracks including two stakes triumphs this year. The mud lover took the $100,000 Bouwerie Stakes at Belmont Park on May 3 and the $70,000 Biogio Rose Stakes at Saratoga on August 21 over tracks that were both labeled sloppy.

The $75,000 New York Oaks is scheduled as the eighth of Saturday’s nine race card. Gaming doors open at 10:00 a.m. and racing gates open at 11:30 a.m.
