2-YEAR-OLD STAKES SLATED FOR LABOR DAY

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – A pair of 2-year-old New York-bred stakes races are scheduled to take place as part of the Labor Day festivities at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. The $150,062 Lady Finger Stakes and the $150,900 Aspirant Stakes will both be run at a distance of six furlongs.
Lady Finger Stakes
Franny Freud will compete in a race restricted for New York-bred fillies for the first time in the 31st renewal of the $150,062 Lady Finger Stakes. The morning line favorite for the event won the $142,487 Ontario Debutante Stakes at Woodbine in her last start on August 15. She scored the victory by one-half length over a synthetic Polytrack surface to improve her record to two wins in three starts. The $133,632 earner trained by John Terranova II broke her maiden against open company by seven lengths in her first career start on May 21. She completed the five furlong race at Belmont Park in a time of :57.90. The even-money program choice owned by Paul Pompa, Jr., Steven Yarbrough and Winter Park Partners will race as a coupled entry with Fresh Footnotes. She will break from the extreme outside post of the eleven horse field and will be ridden by jockey Cornelio Velasquez.
Hook Me Up won her only start by five lengths in a Maiden Special Weight race on August 13. She won the off-the-turf event against male rivals in a five and one-half furlong time of 1:04.54. Her owner
Obviously NY Stable and trainer Linda Rice teamed up to win the Lady Finger Stakes in 2008 with Mother Russia. Jockey John Davila, Jr. will be aboard Hook Me Up who is listed as the 7-2 second choice for the seventh race.Aspirant Stakes
The 35th running of the $150,900 Aspirant Stakes will also take place on Monday with a field of nine competitors. James Barry’s Dahlgren Chapel is the morning line favorite for the six furlong dash for New York-bred 2-year-olds.The Kiaran McLaughlin-trainee was purchased for $165,000 as a yearling before beginning his racing career with a victory at Belmont Park on June 25. He ran third in the $65,000 Tyro Stakes at Monmouth Park in his most recent start on July 26. Jockey John Davila, Jr. will be in the irons of the 8-5 program choice for the eighth race.
The $150,062 Lady Finger Stakes and the $150,900 Aspirant Stakes will both be run as part of "Family Fun Day" at Finger Lakes on Labor Day. There will be live music and children’s entertainment as well as a chicken barbeque under the pavilion for $9.95. First race post time is set at 1:10 p.m.
