A look back and ahead…

Fort Delaware is still a maiden despite making his 59th lifetime start on Tuesday. The Felix Monserrate-trainee has a long way to go to match his famous stablemate Zippy Chippy who retired in 2004 after losing 100 consecutive races. Fort Delaware finished off the board in the sixth race but has finished in the top three 21 times in his career and his $32,719 in purse earnings has already eclipsed his popular elder. Zippy Chippy hit the board in 20 races and amassed a sum of $30,834 in lifetime earnings.

The 47th running of the New York Breeders’ Futurity on Saturday, October 3 is expected to have a purse of over $300,000. Last year’s purse of $318,525 for the
six furlong sprint restricted for New York-bred 2-year-olds was the largest for any race ever run at Finger Lakes.

Longshot of the Week: Pure Vixen took advantage of a speed favoring sloppy surface on Monday and scored a gate-to-wire victory in the fourth race under jockey David Osorio. The 3-year-old filly had not won any of her previous six starts since being acquired by Carl Baker as a Father’s Day present from trainer Charlton Baker. The bay New York-bred accomplished the three-quarters of a length upset at odds of 22-1.
