A look back and ahead…
The first annual Thoroughbred Auction sponsored by the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association was held on Sunday October 11. Over 20 horses changed hands during the event which was established to connect potential buyers with broodmares, yearlings and former racehorses.
After a double on Thursday and a triple on Saturday, Charlton Baker is a clear third in the 2009 Finger Lakes trainer standings with 75 wins. Baker also joined Chris Englehart this week as the only two conditioners to eclipse the one million dollar mark in earnings at Finger Lakes this season. With 123 victories, Englehart continues to be on pace to reach his single meet record of 141 wins that he set in 2006.
Longshot of the Week: She’s Got Thefever outran her odds to win Tuesday’s eighth race for trainer Lavern Bowman. The 17-1 outsider scored the five and one-half furlong triumph by one and three-quarter lengths under jockey Mike Allen. Allen has made frequent visits to the Winner’s Circle since joining the Finger Lakes jockey colony three weeks ago. He guided four of his eight mounts to victory during the last three days of racing.

Trainer Michael Gorham moved closer to a career milestone when Rules R Rules took the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies on Saturday. Gorham is just six away from 1,000 lifetime wins after saddling his second Finger Lakes stakes winner.
