A look back and ahead…
A win streak snapped on Monday for Repole Stables when Lost In the Lake was caught at the wire by Capridge in the fifth race. The owners had won six consecutive races to start the meet before the narrow defeat. Jeremiah Englehart is the conditioner for Repole Stables and all seven horses were ridden by jockey Paul Nicol, Jr. The trainer of Capridge, Michael S. Ferraro, has also been winning at a high percentage this season. Five of the seven horses saddled by Ferraro have visited the winners circle.
Wilfredo Rohena joined the Finger Lakes jockey colony this past week. The veteran rider won over 1,500 races in Puerto Rico including 71 stakes. He has amassed over $16 million in purse earnings during his riding career.
Longshot of the Week: I Quit made his initial start of the 2010 season on Friday after losing by an average of 16 lengths in his four starts in 2009. The Bruce Anderson-trainee scored a two and one-quarter length victory in the ninth race at odds of 56-1. The chestnut gelding was guided to the upset win by jockey Pedro Gonzalez.
