A look back and ahead…

Through Tuesday, Elaine Castillo is eight wins away from becoming the first female jockey to notch 500 Finger Lakes victories. Castillo has been riding for seven years and has been consistantly in the top ten of the jockey standings at the Western New York track. The 28-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico is currently third in the 2010 jockey standings with 18 victories. Violet "Pinky" Smith registered the most career wins of any female Finger Lakes riders. Smith achieved 437 of her 1069 thoroughbred race victories at "the thumb."

Longshot of the Week: Goes wore down Kromium Kop and drew away to win Friday’s fifth race by five and one-half lengths. The 8-year-old gelding scored his second triumph of the season after going winless in 2009. Jockey Ezequiel Perez guided the 25-1 outsider to the upset victory for trainer Linda Dixon.
