A look back and ahead…
John Grabowski was injured from a spill that occurred during the running of the ninth race on Saturday. The 6-time Finger Lakes leading jockey was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York after the incident. He was admitted to the facility where he has been treated for a fractured collarbone, multiple broken ribs, and a punctured lung. He is expected to be sidelined for at least two months.
Volos became the first 4-time winner of the 2010 meet on Thursday, June 3. The chestnut gelding was directed to a two and one-quarter length triumph in the first race by jockey Aadil Khan for trainer Linda Dixon. Dixon claimed the 5-year-old New York-bred from his prior start for $10,000.
The top horses of 2009 will be honored at the annual Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association Awards Dinner. The winners of nine different categories, including Horse of the Year, will be announced during the event that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 15.

Contestants select horses to Hit the Board (win, place or show) in each race to survive. The last competitor standing could win $800 in cash. Plus, there will be drawings for $25 betting vouchers after each of the first eight contest races. There’s also a pick-9 bonus. If a participant picks the winners of all nine contest races they’ll win a share of $10,000.
