FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Jockey Elaine Castillo visited the Finger Lakes winners circle for the 500th time on Sunday. She guided Too Tough Jake to a ten and three-quarter length victory in the seventh race to become the first female jockey in Finger Lakes history to ever reach that particular milestone.

The 28-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico began her career in 2003. She achieved her first win as an apprentice rider at Tampa Bay Downs aboard Rupert’s Rose Morn. She notched her first stakes triumph aboard Momsboy in the 2008 Finger Lakes Juvenile for trainer John Tebbutt. Tebbutt is also the conditioner of Too Tough Jake.

Castillo registered 13 of her 26 wins this season with horses saddled by Tebbutt. She is currently ranked fifth in the 2010 Finger Lakes jockey standings.

THE NIAGARA STAKES

Jockey Emanuel De Diego earned his first career stakes victory in the 30th renewal of the $50,000 Niagara Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Sunday. The 21-year-old from Carolina, Puerto Rico directed Magical Solution to an upset win at odds of 41-1 for trainer Timothy Murphy.

Magical Solution was claimed by Fat Guys Stable for $7,500 on May 11. In her third start for her new owner, the $66,888 earner notched her third lifetime victory in the sprint for New York-bred 3-year-old fillies. She completed the six furlong distance in 1:13.00 and paid $85.50, 5.90 and $3.30. Helyna’s My Mom was second and paid $2.10 and $2.10. Warmhearted Sandy finished third and returned $2.70.

The next two stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will take place on Saturday, July 17. The $150,000 New York Derby for 3-year-old New York-breds will be contested at a distance of one mile and one-sixteenth. The $50,000 Arctic Queen Handicap, a six furlong sprint for New York-bred fillies and mares, will also be run that day.
