IBBOYEE RETURNS TO FINGER LAKES FOR THE NEW YORK DERBY

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Ibboyee is the 4-5 program choice for the 38th renewal of the $150,000 New York Derby at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Saturday. The bay colt will be vying for his third consecutive Finger Lakes victory in the one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds.
Ibboyee won the $150,900 Aspirant Stakes and the $314,263 New York Breeders’ Futurity in 2009. He scored both convincing victories by over six lengths.
The $498,298 earner owned by Anstu Stables is the only entrant in Saturday’s eighth race who ran in the $100,000 Mike Lee at Belmont Park on June 20. He finished third in the seven furlong event which is the first leg of the Big Apple Triple.
The Todd Pletcher-trainee will be ridden on Saturday by jockey Michael Luzzi. Luzzi has registered 3,169 wins in his 22 year career and has amassed a total of $96,567,402 in purse earnings. The 40-year-old journeyman has notched 231 stake triumphs including the $156,612 Lady Finger Stakes with Mother Russia on September 1, 2008.
The New York Derby is the second leg of the Big Apple Triple which will provide a $250,000 bonus to the owner of any horse that sweeps all three races. The series concludes with the $150,000 Albany Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Wednesday, August 25.
Arctic Queen Handicap
Francis Paolangeli’s Gold for the Queen will make her bid to be this season’s first multiple stakes winner in the 12th running of the $50,000 Arctic Queen Handicap. She is listed as the program’s 4-1 third choice for the six furlong sprint restricted to New York-bred fillies and mares3-years old and up.
The Charlton Baker-trainee won the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap on June 12 under jockey Pedro Rodriguez. Rodriguez will back be in the irons of the $204,136 earner for Saturday’s seventh race.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m., the first 1,000 Members to check in to Player Extras receive a free New York Derby T-shirt. WYSL 1040 AM/92.1 FM will carry a live broadcast of the day’s events including pre and post race analysis of the New York Derby. First race post time is set at 1:10 p.m.
