FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Raynick’s Jet is the morning line favorite for the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Saturday. The Steven Asmussen-trainee is listed as the 8-5 program choice for the 27th renewal of the six furlong sprint for New York-bred 3-year-olds.
All three of the bay gelding’s career wins were at a distance of six furlongs. His most recent victory was in an open allowance race at Belmont Park on May 15. He won the event despite having a wide trip after a slow start.
Raynick’s Jet outclasses his six other rivals with $96,900 in lifetime purse earnings. He ran a respectable fourth in the Grade 3 $200,000 Bay Shore at Aqueduct on April 3, 2010. His success has enticed Finger Lakes leading jockey John Davila, Jr. to ride him this weekend.
Too Tough Jake will make his second Finger Lakes start in the annual stake. He crushed maidens in his previous race by a total of ten and three-quarter lengths under jockey Elaine Castillo. Castillo earned her 500th Finger Lakes win aboard the John Tebbutt-trainee. She is the first female jockey to ever reach that milestone at the Western New York Track. The 29-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico will be back in the irons to class test the promising gelding.
The $50,000 Ontario County Stakes is scheduled as the eighth of Saturday’s nine race card. First race post time will be at 1:10 p.m. Gaming doors open at 10:00 a.m. and racing gates open at 11:30 a.m.
