Pro’s Pal
returned to the winner’s circle on Friday for trainer Charlton Baker. The $143,000 earner took the eighth race by five and one-half lengths in a six furlong time of 1:10.50 under jockey Jose Gutierrez. The bay gelding continued the success he enjoyed earlier in the meet when he registered victories in his first two starts of 2010. He also finished second in the $50,000 George Barker Handicap on May 31. His classy stablemate finished third in Friday’s feature. Johnie Bye Night has been slowly rounding into form this year after starting the season off a 16 month layoff. The 2006 Finger Lakes Horse of the Year has a resume that includes five stakes triumphs at his home track.The annual dinner auction to benefit the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program (FLTAP) is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 21. There will be a silent auction at 6pm, Dinner at 7pm, live auction at 8pm and musical entertainment by Dang (country) throughout the Purple Haze Center. The FLTAP was established to find suitable homes for the adoptable horses that raced or trained at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack.
Longshot of the Week: Rascal Pick was overlooked by the betting public on Friday after he was not badly beaten in his career debut on July 30. The Joseph Raposa-trainee scored a head victory in the fifth race due to a well time ride by jockey David Osorio. The 4-year-old New York-bred earned the upset win at odds of 33-1.
