A look back and ahead…
A seven month layoff couldn’t stop Tiger Speech from scoring his third consecutive victory for trainer Michael S. Ferraro. The 5-year-old gelding, with Robert Messina in the saddle, rallied to win the Father’s Day Handicap on Sunday by a hard fought nose over Sideways Glance. The final time of 1:41.83 was the quickest of the season for the one mile and seventy yard distance.
Leading trainer Chris Englehart received a Father’s Day treat watching his son Jeremiah win his first stakes race on Sunday with Hoosick Falls. "His mother and I are very proud of him," said Chris Englehart. "He is an outstanding horseman already." Jeremiah Englehart is currently ninth in the 2007 Finger Lakes trainer standings with 11 victories.
Longshot of the Week: Trainer Roger Campbell had a victory Friday with the first horse he saddled in 2007. Ducky Lyksus got away on the front end under jockey Olaf Hernandez to win the ninth race at odds of 14-1. It began of a successful week for Hernandez, who had at least one win on each racing day.
