A look back and ahead…

The first 2-year-old race of the 2007 season was won by Play N Hooky on Saturday. The New York-bred filly defeated a field of mostly male rivals by ten and one-quarter lengths in her career debut for trainer M. Anthony Ferraro. She completed the five furlong distance in a time of :59.80 under the guidance of jockey John Grabowski.

Tiger Speech toyed with his competitors and drew off to win the Raymond Royston Memorial Handicap by eight and one-half lengths on Sunday. The Michael S. Ferraro-trainee sizzled the one mile and seventy yard distance in a final time of 1:41.52 under jockey Robert Messina. The 5-year-old gelding finished third to Funny Cide in the $100,000 Wadsworth Memorial Handicap on July 4 in his previous start. Raymond Royston was involved in Finger Lakes racing since the 1960’s as a jockey and Racing Official.
