Testament out dueled Time Piece to the wire to win the Jose Olivares Memorial Purse on Sunday by a nose. The 4-year-old gelding was ridden to victory by Nazario Alvarado for trainer Daniel Conway, Jr. The eighth race feature was named in honor of former jockey Jose Olivares; a member of the Finger Lakes Hall of Fame. A service was held before the gates opened on Sunday for the six-time leading Finger Lakes jockey who passed away from an apparent heart attack on January 17, 2007.

Brocco Valley cruised to victory by four and one-half lengths in Tuesday’s sixth race. The 5-year-old gelding, trained by Charlton Baker, led gate-to-wire to win the allowance race in a time of 1:43.04 for the one mile and seventy yard distance. It was the second win of the day for his jockey Pedro Rodriguez who also won the third race aboard Strider’s Ormsby.

Longshot of the Week: Lady Zipper took a month off before winning the third race on Friday for trainer Edward Perdue at high odds. The 3-year-old filly used her fresh legs and a well rated ride by jockey John Grabowski to score the upset by two lengths at odds of 16-1.

Jockey/Trainer News: Nazario Alvarado has been a surprise lingering in the top ten in the Finger Lakes jockey standings throughout the meet. After two wins on Monday, Alvarado is currently ranked ninth with 32 victories.
