GENESEE VALLEY BREEDERS’ HANDICAP TO BE RUN ON SATURDAY
Brocco Valley early favorite in feature race
FARMINGTON, N.Y. – The 30th renewal of the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap is scheduled to be run on Saturday at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. Brocco Valley is listed as the 1-2 early program choice for the one mile and one-sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up.
Brocco Valley will face five other competitors vying for his first career stakes win. The 123-poundhighweight, owned by Ferentino Farm and trainer Charlton Baker, finished second in the Rochester Handicap in his last start on August 27. The 5-year-old gelding has been in the top three in each of his six starts at Finger Lakes this season, including a victory in the Post Tense Handicap on May 5. John Davila, Jr. will be aboard the morning line favorite on Saturday.
E El R Stable’s Sideways Glance defeated Brocco Valley in an allowance race on July 16. The 5-year-old gelding has earned more money than any of his rivals with $247,114 in lifetime purse earnings. He returns to Finger Lakes attempting to make amends for the last place finish at Saratoga in his last start. A jockey has not yet been listed to be aboard the Chris Englehart-trainee.
Mt. Majesty returned quick dividends for owner Hesa Stable and trainer Nirka Huertas when he won the Lorenzo Handicap on August 5 after being claimed for $12,500 in his previous start. The 6-year-old gelding has three consecutive victories leading up to Saturday’s feature and his eleven career wins are more than any of his rivals. The 8-1 outsider will be ridden by jockey Pedro Rodriguez.
