
MT. MAJESTY WINS GENESEE VALLEY

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Mt. Majesty was a four length winner of the 30th running of the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Saturday. The 6-year-old gelding completed the one mile and one sixteenth route for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up in a final time of 1:46.38.
The chestnut New York-bred has won two consecutive races for owner Hesa Stable who claimed him for $12,500 on July 24. He also won the Lorenzo Handicap at Finger Lakes on August 5 for his new stable. The $204,116 earner was the first horse saddled by trainer Nirka Huertas to win a stakes race. "This is very exciting for me", said Huertas. "He’s been working well and I’ve seen a lot of improvement."
Mt. Majesty was kept close to the early pace by jockey Pedro Rodriguez before taking over the front. He then widened his lead and was unthreatened by a late rally by Rises the Phoenix.
He ended up the post time favorite and paid $5.00, $3.00 and $3.00. Rises the Phoenix returned $2.50 and $2.70 for finishing second and Clery’s Contender paid $3.50 for being third.
Two stakes races will be run at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Saturday, October 6. The $200,000(est.) New York Breeders’ Futurity, a 6-furlong sprint for New York-bred 2-year-olds, will bethe feature race. The $50,000 Proud Puppy Handicap for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up will also take place that day.
