A look back and ahead…

 

Trainer Nirka Huertas saddled her first career stakes winner on Saturday. Mt. Majesty drew away from the field to win the $50,000 Genesee Valley Breeders’ Handicap by four lengths under jockey Pedro Rodriguez.

Trainer Thomas Castellano passed away this week due to complications that developed from blood clots. No arrangements have been made at this time for the 38-year-old originally from New York City.

Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack will offer evening simulcast wagering on various thoroughbred racetracks Friday and Saturday evenings starting on September 21. Hours for simulcasting on Fridays and Saturdays will now extend to 10 p.m.

Longshot of the Week: On Tuesday, Ava Marisa visited the winners circle for the first time since May 7, 2005. The 8-year-old mare upset an allowance field by a length and one-quarter. Joel Sone was aboard the 65-1 longshot for trainer Felix Monserrate. The eighth race trifecta payoff of $20,622.00 for a two dollar wager was the largest of the 2007 meet.

Jockey News: Howard Wolliaston earned his first career victory aboard He Did It in Monday’s fourth race for trainer Neville Henry. Wolliaston guided the 7-year-old gelding to a gate-to-wire win at odds of 55-1.
